As we design our next collection of Dramatically Different shirts I am reminded that our clients often ask us how we come up with ideas. While we pay attention to fashion trends and what is going on in the world of fashion, our designs are not based on what we see others doing. When creating a shirt we strive to inject colour, interesting detail and most of all FUN! Here is how we do it...
Often, the starting point for us is finding beautiful fabric, both for the body of the shirts and the trim for added detail. Our focus is creating shirts that people can wear with black, blue, grey or tan – the basics in any wardrobe. But that doesn’t mean the fabrics need to be drab. On the contrary. Contrasting dark suits with colourful stripes and checks is what we do! Why not work with yellow or pink, purple or green – colours that will match everything you own.
Another area we find inspiration is, believe it or not, buttons and thread. The world of buttons seems almost endless! Finding exactly the right button around which we create a shirt is very exciting. While it seems backward, sometimes there is a button unique enough to warrant creating a shirt just to showcase it. And contrasting thread colour can make even a plain white button pop.
Lastly, motivation often comes from our clients. We are blessed to have a wonderfully diverse and creative clientele from around the world. We listen to the requests and suggestions they give us. And from time to time we create a shirt with specific people in mind. We hope our clients know how much we value their feedback. We wouldn’t keep doing what we do if it wasn’t for you.
